Pharmacist . Deprescribing Expert . Speaker . Educator

About
Dr. DeLon Canterbury

Since graduating from the University of North Carolina Eshelman School of Pharmacy in 2014, Dr. DeLon Canterbury has dedicated his career to serving low-income and rural populations through various avenues of community service and volunteerism, from Henderson, NC to across the Raleigh-Durham Triangle. Working primarily with rural, low-income, and geriatric populations, Dr. DeLon Canterbury recognized early on that medication adherence is often tied not just to access, but also to the motivation and support patients receive. Without someone in their corner, many patients struggle to follow their prescribed treatments.

Dr. DeLon Canterbury became a trusted figure and community resource in both the Henderson and Durham areas. However, the most personal and profound challenge came when his grandmother, Mildred, began to decline due to dementia and relocated from Brooklyn to Georgia to live with his parents.

Despite their best efforts, the family struggled to manage her condition as she began to wander outside and misplace valuables. It wasn’t until a local pharmacist in Georgia discovered she had been mistakenly prescribed duplicate medications—causing severe side effects—that they understood the full impact of inadequate geriatric care.

This experience cemented Dr. DeLon Canterbury’s commitment to caring for vulnerable populations and ensuring that no other family would have to endure the same confusion and hardship. It led to the founding of GeriatRx—a service created so patients and families know they have a trusted health professional treating their loved ones like family and advocating for their well-being every step of the way.
